So, officially, it’s time to start thinking about the upcoming season of Lent. I encourage you to start thinking about your Lenten reading.

On the third Friday from 7:00 - 8:00 pm of every month, for one hour, we will spend time in prayer and reflection in adoration, with the opportunity to go to confession at the same time. Before the hour is up, a priest or deacon will give a short speech on a topic of their choice.

Today’s Gospel reading is taken from Luke’s Sermon on the Plain. Its counterpart is Matthew’s sermon on the Mount.

Even though Valentine’s Day is a great day to celebrate love, it’s also a day to remind us how we need to show love and kindness to each other every day.

We are in need of workers, food donations, and new and used aprons for our workers. If you are too busy to volunteer, financial donations to support the program are always appreciated.

February is National Heart Month. As you age, your blood vessels can stiffen, causing your heart to work harder to pump blood through them. The heart muscles then enlarge to adjust to the increased workload. These changes increase the risk of high blood pressure and other heart problems.  

Today’s Gospel reading from Luke is an abrupt change in direction from last week’s reading where Jesus was rejected by his hometown people. We see the acceptance of Jesus by Peter, James and John. The three fishermen had worked all night and came up with nothing. Only when they listened to Jesus’ command to “put out into deep water”

My column this week is going to be a mini reminder that it’s up to all of us to pray for vocations to the priesthood!
