We are almost at the halfway point of our Lenten season. Where have you encountered God in these past three weeks? In reading Scripture? In Prayer?

I write to you today to bring to your attention a profoundly serious concern that could very well undo all the progress that has been made over these nearly 50 years to protect the life of the unborn. There is a pro-abortion proposal currently underway in Michigan to have the right to an abortion protected by a new law that is to be enshrined in the State Constitution by amendment. If enacted this would be a devastating blow to innocent human life in the State of Michigan.

Today’s Gospel reading takes place right after Jesus’ baptism in the Jordan River by John, where the Holy Spirit descends on Jesus and God the Father speaks from the heavens, saying “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Why, then, was Jesus led into the desert to be tempted?

As I’ve mentioned in a previous column, we have waited a long time for Lent. Doesn’t it sound strange to say that? How many of you have been waiting for Lent? Over the years, I have found myself waiting for Lent.
