Just a week and a half left. No, I’m not talking about the Superbowl. You only have to wait a few more hours for that. As I’m looking forward, it is easy to see that we are now quickly approaching the season of Lent.
That may not be the reminder that you were hoping for. It always seems to be a little different when we are waiting for Advent and Christmas. The Advent Season is a lot more joyful and expectant. We might not feel that way as we approach Lent. It is indeed a more penitential and somber season as we mediate on what Christ has done for us. Knowing that some of you like to plan ahead, we will put together our annual Lenten calendar of events so that you can plan out these weeks before Easter. (Doesn’t the thought of Spring sound nice after this Winter?). It is similar to what we have done in past years. You will find it in the next bulletin.
This weekend, the Church also recognizes World Marriage Day. The observances of National Marriage Week (February 7-14) and World Marriage Day (Sunday, February 8) are an opportunity to focus on building a culture of life and love that begins with supporting and promoting marriage and the family. The theme for 2026 is “Man and Woman He Created Them: Together With Purpose.” This particular week is chosen each year since it is the week before Valentines Day. It’s a great time for couples to focus and remember to continue building and strengthening their marriage relationship. Not only this, but it’s an opportunity for all of us to pray for engaged couples and those preparing for marriage in the coming year.
If you are still wondering where Fr. Joseph is at, he is still on vacation for one more week. Pray that he will have safe travels back to us in Portage. I appreciate all the help that I have received from my brother priests to cover some of the Masses while he has been gone.
