The St. Vincent de Paul organization here at St. Catherine’s helps those facing difficult situations such as homelessness, being evicted, or having utilities turned off. Members from our group meet with these people on Saturday mornings at the Stanley Centre, learn about their situations, and figure out how we can best assist them in resolving these problems. Last month, we were able to assist a woman, whose house was only 45 degrees due to her power being shut off. We helped pay her bills to get her heat back on. Another family was living in a U-Haul truck, and we were able to help find them a new place to live. Additionally, SVDP distributes non-bridge items to those we meet with on Saturdays. Non-bridge items are things that can’t be purchased with Bridge Cards (formerly Food Stamps) including toilet paper, dish soap, shampoo, etc. Last year we were able help over 300 people and families by providing almost $40,000 in support. In addition, 100 less fortunate families were provided with delicious Thanksgiving meals. These works of charity would not be possible without your constant support! Your food donations as well as volunteered time packing and delivering these Thanksgiving food baskets made this possible. We also thank all who have donated to the poor box. This lock box is attached to a pillar near the church entrance, and all proceeds go directly to St. Vincent de Paul. Consider becoming a member of St Vincent de Paul and join us in our works of charity. Please contact the President, Dave Clare, (269) 363-6579 with any questions you may have. Thank you St. Vincent de Paul for your service to our parish and our community!
