The following is excerpted from Fr. Michael Gaitley's book “Divine Mercy Explained”:
Divine Mercy has been called "the greatest grassroots movement in the history of the Catholic Church" and has changed millions of lives. But what is it?
Divine Mercy gets to the heart of Sacred Scripture. In fact, as the Catechism of the Catholic Church says, "The Gospel is the revelation in Jesus Christ of God's mercy to sinners" (ccc 1849). In the words of Pope Benedict XVI, "Divine Mercy is not a secondary devotion, but an integral dimension of Christian faith and prayer."
Pope St. John Paul II called Divine Mercy "love's second name.” It is a particular kind of love, a particular mode of love when it encounters suffering, poverty, brokenness, and sin. Divine Mercy is when God's love meets us and helps us in the midst of our suffering and sin.
In two weeks, April 27th, the Church will celebrate “Divine Mercy Sunday”.
Stay tuned to learn more about Divine Mercy Sunday and other aspects of the Divine Mercy Devotion, including our plans to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet in the main church at 10:30 am on Divine Mercy Sunday.
