Dear Parishioners,
In the history of our parish, this is indeed an important month. Our parish was founded on August 10, 1966. The first Mass was held on August 28, 1966. During these 60 years, many families have come through these doors in prayer. It is indeed a time to be thankful and remember the blessings that our Lord has shown our parish (even though not everyone has been here for all 60 of these years). Come and celebrate with all of us for our annual parish picnic that will be held in the Stanley Centre on September 13th. This is just less than a month away and the picnic will begin right after the 11 a.m. Mass on that day.
Hopefully by now, you have learned about our important announcement of what we need to do to repair our Church building. As our parish community has grown over the past 60 years, we have needed to add more room to our main building by adding Marian Hall and later the expansion of the Church/office wing that was added in the 2006 addition. The 2006 addition also included a Blessed Sacrament Chapel that was added behind the altar. In short, this part of the building is sinking. This chapel is in need of repair as this part of the addition has been slowly sinking and damage has occurred over several years, especially during extreme cold spells. Our contractors will be starting work in a few weeks to begin repairs to this section and to keep this addition from sinking any further. This will include work to the foundation in this part of the building and to prevent further damage, we will need to change the grade around the front of the building (toward Centre). All this work will help to stabilize this part of the building and restore it where we no longer have any issues. I am always happy to answer any questions that you have about this (or I put an insert in the bulletin and on the website to explain things as well). We have the money in our savings to pay for the repairs.
As we learn from the contractor what we need to do over the next few weeks, I will share them with you as soon as possible. I am anticipating that we will need to screen off the Blessed Sacrament Chapel addition for a period of time so that work can proceed in that section. I’ll certainly keep everyone informed as the work commences.
Thanks for reading!
